Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?
A light double pushchair makes it easy to get around, particularly for families with children of different age groups. They are easy to fold, steer and transport up and over steps.
This City Mini GT2 offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom, adjustable reclining and huge UPF 50+ canopies with windows that peek out. It also comes with an expanding frame width to accommodate the second car seat or another passenger.
Side-by-Side
The majority of light double pushchairs we've tested are side-by-side designs and are generally recommended for children that can sit up unassisted because they aren't equipped with car seat integration. That said there are some exceptions. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both top choices that have recline that can be adjusted in both seats, a wide canopy and padded 5-point harnesses. They are also easy to move around despite their bigger footprint. They are great for parents who fret about getting through doors.
The Cybex Duet pushchair is unique because of its clever frame that can be expanded to allow for a second child seat. This makes it smaller than other pushchairs that are side-by-side. It is able to pass through doors that are standard and is easy to maneuver on public transportation. It can also be used as a jogger, which is great news for those who want to use it in conjunction with an infant carrier or car seat, and comes in a variety of fun colors.
Another great side-by-side, lightweight double is the UPPAbaby Vista v2 Double, which allows for even more customization through a modular frame. It features a clever design that lets you convert it into a single stroller or a double by incorporating two car seats or carrycots (it can even take twins). It's a great option for growing families, and the UPPAbaby also is among the tiniest and most fashionable umbrella strollers on the market.
Try the egg2 that folds down to the size and weight of a small suitcase. It can be used as a single or double with the addition of two carrycots or infant car seats and our home testers were awed by the sleek and easy it was to handle, even when fully loaded with kids.
Side-by-side pushchairs that are lightweight aren't foolproof, though -- if your children are of the same age or stage, they might be fighting over who rides in which seat. If they are at different heights, a tandem style may be best for them, as it allows them to face eachother.

Tandem
While side-byside models are more suited to siblings of similar age group, tandem light double strollers have distinct appeals. Some can fit carseats that are larger, and some have reversible seats. Others have an extra carrycot or a reversible seat in the middle. They are generally more spacious and simple to move into and out of the baskets, though they are usually smaller than those on single buggies. They also have larger large canopies that have peekaboo windows and a cup holder for the parent and padded leg cushions for children.
The iCandy Peach is another example of a great value lightweight tandem. The fabrics are less luxurious than some of our top-rated doubles. However, it still looks fantastic and is simple to use. Its one-handed folding is impressive. Although it takes some time to master, Kirstie from our Lab called it "genius". The carrycot cannot be folded while it's attached. However, the process to attach and remove the carrycot is easy and quick.
Tandem double pushchairs are light and lightweight. They typically make tighter turns than side-byside models, however they are more difficult to drive over uneven surfaces and curbs. They can also be slower to accelerate and are heavier to move. This puts strain on your back.
A convertible double buggy is an additional option. It's initially a single, but you can add adapters to make it double. It could include a second seat, carrycot, or both in front. Children can share a seat. Some can also consider including a buggyboard, which can help an older child keep pace with a younger brother or sister.
The Uppababy Vista V2 can be converted into a twin-sized pram by purchasing additional cocoons at PS59 each. These cocoons create an area that is flat for newborns. They can be placed on top of each other or positioned to each other's faces, and you can use them with the infant car seat that comes with the pushchair (as as long as you choose an appropriate one). These buggies with dual-use capabilities are made of quality materials and can last for many years without showing any wear. This means they come with a high resale price.
Single-to-Double
This compact double buggy is designed for outdoor-loving family who are looking to upgrade from a single-stroller. It can be transformed into a jogger by acquiring kits that include air-filled tires and all-wheel-suspension. It's also a great choice for twins, or children from different age groups and as triple tandem, it is able to be able to handle the rough terrain. It's also a good option for parents who want a stylish design that's as sleek as a single, and is available in a range of fabrics.
We loved the way this iCandy model folds up with a one-handed mechanism that's extremely simple to master. It's heavier than other single-to double pushchairs, but home tester Karolina says it's very mobile even with two toddlers inside and carrying a carrycot.
The seat can be used as a parent-facing and you can purchase accessories for this stroller, such as the Roma Gemini carrycots (PS100 each), which are ideal for babies. The seats are comfortable for toddlers and come with excellent headrests and lumbar support. There are many options for reclining the seats and the front seat is adjustable in various positions and the back seat having an option to recline.
This kind of buggy has the biggest disadvantage of being larger than side-byside doubles. This makes it difficult to maneuver through doorways and it isn't easy to maneuver between kerbs. The suspension and wheels of these strollers tend to be able to deal with paved surfaces. They're also lighter than many side-bysides which means you can have plenty of storage space. It's worth bearing in mind that these strollers aren't as good at navigating narrow aisles in supermarkets, and may struggle to handle a large amount of shopping. Although it's much easier to turn the stroller around on a narrow, curving path, this can be a hassle. Some are easier to turn than other models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or the Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.
Convertible
The great thing about convertible double pushchairs is that they are able to adapt to changing family requirements. They typically start as single buggies and include adapters to add a second seat, a carrycot or (in some cases) the car seat to the frame. Some of them can be converted back to a single as your child gets older and starts to walk more or prefers to ride on buggy boards.
This stylish tri-fold double stroller can be described as one of the lightest strollers on our list. It can carry up to 40 pounds per child, and includes an extra storage basket in between the seats. The spacious canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats and a front and back suspensions to ensure smoother and more comfortable riding on rough terrain were appreciated by home testers. It also has a convenient parent cup holder and an enormous, easily accessible basket. side by side double stroller of the bags have small pockets which are only large enough to hold the phone and a set of keys.
This premium, lightweight side-by-side can be used in more than 20 configurations and comes with an additional seat and carrycot. Its impressive features include a high-profile handlebar for easier steering; front and rear suspension to smooth rough terrain; a self-standing, compact fold with handy straps for easy schlepping; and seven-inch swivel lock front wheels and back wheels that measure 10 inches with suspension to provide a more comfortable ride. The only downside is that you'll need buy a separate baby carrier or car seat.
This versatile tandem is a top choice by our home testers due to its easy-to-maneuver size and impressively large shopping basket that is accessible from both seats facing towards the parent. Its light weight (about the same as some single pushchairs) makes it a breeze to move around. Reversible seats mean you can switch them around to face either direction and the clever way it connects a second seat or riding board to the rear is praised by many. Parents also admired that it accommodates car seats and infant carriers from a variety of brands. This includes some that are not typically compatible with other double buggies.
